Ploughmans CC vs Norwood CC (Home) Sun 12th August 2018

Match Report

New day, new start for the beautiful Ploughmans team. Graciously led by Liam Gray, the team felt inspired before the start of the game. The squad were incredibly appreciative of Suri – for the late call up to the team. With overcast conditions potentially favouring the Plough, we bowled first, kicking things off with AJ and Grayzer. Norwood got off to a steady start- started to accumulate runs, irritatingly the openers started to feel comfortable and amassed a 100 partnership.

Matt Jones and Barraz continued to test the batsmen who looked set despite half chances being hit into open areas. After drinks, Grayzer turned to the handy duo of Silva and Tisato, this pair became a nuisance for the oppo. Going from 100-0 to 125-4, the oppo faced a rough period and struggled to answer to the Plough bowling change. Watching Tisato bowling elegantly was a pleasure to watch – just as much watching Silva provide outstanding support from the other end.

Slowly Norwood started to rebuild and the occasional cost of a wicket, with Jo, Grayzer, AJ and Barraz closing off the bowling innings – Norwood CC closed on 200-9 after 40 overs. Credit to Niraj for 2 quality catches and some spot on fielding, alongside a good overall fielding performance from the team. The Plough also enjoyed a larger lunch as the oppo decided consuming Domino’s pizza would give them a tactical advantage during the next innings.

Opening up with Steve and Tisato (is there anything this man can’t do?????), we took to the crease with confidence. After the first couple of loose overs, Norwood bowlers found some rhythm and Ploughmans tripped to 20-2, Barraz helped to steady the ship alongside Jon despite some unexpected bounce towards the end of the game. Unfortunately, regular wickets hurt Ploughmans and we fell to about 60-6. Good length deliveries bouncing around neck height caused Ploughmans to slow down and struggle for any late innings acceleration. The game was not to be with Ploughmans falling short by approx. 100 runs.

Couple of quick shout outs; Grayzer for motivating the team – pushing Norwood from 100-0 to 200-9, Suri for some quality glove work, Jo for taking a wicket with his first delivery, Tisato for pushing through 7 quality overs.

Many lessons to be carried forward to the next couple of games as we look to end the season on a high!

Thanks

AJ
