Match Report
The cricket gods were taking pity on us with another glorious September day at Ripley CC after all the lost games this year.
Unfortunately it did mean that everyone was out enjoying the sun, so for the car drivers the journey wasn’t the most fun but fortunately we were batting first.
Some tight opening bowling had Bharat and Tom Lane pinned down. But our new overseas player, James Sully, proved he has been worth the money. With Tom’s support, both moved the scoring on. Showing an array of shots straight out of the coaching manual!
Both put on a great stand, each reaching their 50s before the 30 over mark. James fell trying to move the scoring on in the last 10 overs, which was the same with the next 7 batsmen!
Alex, another of the Aussie contingent, put in a quick 22, and with the help of a late 12 by Lewis we were able to step off the field with an air of confidence and 189 to defend.
Unfortunately we didn’t listen to the well-captained Richard’s message, our bowlers were a bit wayward and the opening batsmen made easy work on the quick outfield.
Lewis delivered a decent opening spell however, managing to pick up one of the openers in his 1-40. Mo also picked up a couple of wickets with his floating leg spinners for just 48 runs.
James chipped in at the end picking up another wicket for the loss of 24 runs.
Alas Ripley CC, believe it or not, polished off the runs in under 30 overs – with the help of a few dropped catches. Nevertheless with great weather and good banter after the game, mainly focusing on James’ love life, it was a great day!
