LEAGUE – Ploughmans CC vs Croydon CC A (Home) Sat 4th August 2018

Match Report

Saturday 4th August saw the Plough descend on Dulwich for the big dance in Surrey League Div 2 – 1st v 2nd place. News we were on the Hollies saw 11 plough trek over the DSG in preparation for a usual lively wicket. Fred won the toss and happily bowled first.

Liam and Bolsh opened, quickly finding the right length on the pitch. Grayzer picked up two while first change Puff picked up another. A strong partnership in the middle saw Croydon put on 60 odd for the fourth wicket, before Puff again found the breakthrough. Some lower order contributions saw Croydon get to 145-5 before Duray and golden arm Barraz cleaned up the tail. Durex finished with 3 for 41 and Barraz with an eventful 3-18 off 2 overs!

At tea, the match was finely poised – we knew their total of 183 would be tough if they found their length on a lively pitch. Tisato and Britto opened and looked solid for the first 21 runs before Tis holed out to cover. What followed next can only be describe as a collapse of epic proportions. 21-0 became 68-8 in an instant! The only real fight from the upper and middle order coming from Barraz with a classy 20 odd, before he was caught behind – credit to Barraz for walking, the oppo appreciated the sportsmanship and honesty – as he brought some credibility back to Australian cricket. Puff did his best to support before he was adjudged LBW.

A decent partnership followed with Spence and Silva putting on 32 for the ninth wicket – adding some much needed batting bonus points. The Plough eventually bowled out for 104, putting us a fraction behind Croydon in the league table.

A really good effort in the field, a few dropped catches could’ve kept them down to 150. But ultimately we didn’t do enough with the bat. Still all to play for in the league – we’ve been excellent so far this season so let’s finish in the same vein! Up the Plough!
