LEAGUE – Ploughmans CC v London Welsh (Home) Sat 29th April 2017

Match Report

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, things didn’t start very well for us.. I was bowled of a juicy full toss and after a moment complaining about it being too high I realised I was being an idiot and so trundled off.

Ovens fell soon later and we were reeling at 2-30 lucky Paul in his first hit for the season managed to steady the ship before being dismissed for hard worked 43. To my dismay Britto was out soon after reverse sweeping a ball on middle. Umpire Ash gave him the finger and we were back in trouble again.

All this time Rory Turner was watching his fellow Ploughman collapse at a rate of knots. He was steadily making runs off the bad balls and keeping the good ones out. Mentions to Bolshaw for a well made 25 at the end, Rory batted unbelievably well for a well made 93not out. Eventually Ash finished them off with a few great shots including a cover drive threatening the middle order. Rumours are he is working his way to a ton this season. We managed a total of 257. A total that I didn’t think could be matched.

On the other side of a lovely tea things never got going for us. I opened the bowling and bowled shit, we never seemed to gain any momentum. Ash bowled very well, there was no horrendous bowling, just one ball in every over going for 4, some loose fielding and 5 or 6 dropped half chances saw them flying at 2-155.

New boy Ajit bowled really well and was rewarded with 2 wickets in 2 overs we had a small chance but it was not to be as they strolled to the total with 3 overs to spare. Overall a great day with friends but not the start to the league we were looking for.

Looking forward to the next fixture.

Love, Barraz
