Byfleet CC v Ploughmans CC (Away) Sun 7th May 2017

Match Report

Sundays game against West Byfleet was a good game to excite a neutral with its ebb and flow. A strong Ploughman’s team batted first after scooper won the toss. With Britto and Barras opening we went to 70-0 off 11. Barras was racing along and Britto doing a good job of accumulating. We felt strong at this point. However Steve soon fell after being caught at cover and the collapse started. Paul Hynes, Duray and Leon all fell for not much. Matt Bollshaw salvaged some runs for us before also falling. This left us with Paddy and Shamone (Matt Jones) at the crease. These two helped save our innings by stubbornly sticking around and pushing our score up. Their partnership of 50 gave us a target to bowl at before the captain and myself fell after Matt jones had been caught.

After some incredible teas of which I probably ate too much of, we set about defending our target of 149, which I maintain was 148 more than we needed, if Bollshaw had been allowed to bowl for all of us. With the Matt attack opening the bowling we kept it tight and MB took 2 wickets early on. At 69-2 off 12 it looked slightly in our favour. However by the 16th over it was all but over. MB almost as if controlling the ball by magic rolled through them like the soviet offensive through a decimated eastern nazi front. His 6-24, along with UKIP’s nice 2 wickets left them at 79-8. As is customary at this point in Sunday cricket you bring on the pie chuckers to make it more of a game. So without further notice on I came. Once we had let them close enough however we brought on Duray, who finished them off with 2 very good wickets in an excellent bowling spell.

With them all out for 120 we went off to enjoy a drink in their beautiful ground. An excellent fixture and one for next year.
