Match Report

Filling in as skipper, I lost the toss and we were put in.

Woking had a good set of bowlers that kept our batting largely in check, but nevertheless Britto and Barraz built a brilliant opening stand of 101. TJ went without scoring after Barraz’s 36, and Max ticked things along nicely before finding mid wicket. Steve then fell for late 60s – great knock!

Chris and myself added a little to the score but we were losing wickets in a rush. ?We were finally dismissed for 182, in the final over, and possibly 25-30 below par.

We started very well with the ball. ?At drinks (20 overs) we had them 60-4. Unfortunately we let slip our control of the run rate after that. ?At 6 down we dropped 2 very simple catches and a very tough chance with them still needing over 60.?

We did get them 9 down and I must congratulate Puff on an excellent spell of 4-25 off his 9. ?I took 3 and Ross and Duray also chipped in. 2 VERY close LBWs to Ross, and a run out (again to Ross that looked out) would have sealed it but ultimately their number 10 batted quite brilliantly (memorable hooked 6) to take them home with 7 overs to go.

There are positives from this game. ?Great spirit, some very good skills and a?real?will to win, and perform.

Unfortunately, at the key moments, we just didn’t on this day have quite enough to match Woking. We controlled most of this game. ?But:

1. We must bat the overs and continually look to score. ?200 at least is going to be required this season – more on our small ground.

2. Catches and ground fielding do win matches.

3. We were given a lesson in line and length bowling. ?4 balls are a killer.
