Match Report
It was a beautiful summers day that graced us as we took on London Welsh in the league.
The game set off in the right direction, with our Mr. Reliable, Stephen Britto, winning the toss and electing for us to bat first.? From then on, one can only describe the game as a one sided battle.
Britto and Barrraclough, got the game off to a delightful start. There were some lovely shots by both of them to take the shine of the new ball. Unfortunately, Britto was the first to fall, with a well-played 22. Stewart-Richardson, came in at number 3, his first league game for 4 years, and was met with some pretty generous bowling. With a quick fire 42 of 27 balls, saw our second wicket fall when we were on 128. Freddie Mills came in at number 4, and alongside Barraclough, who by this stage had passed 50, played some wonderful shots. Dispatching the bad ball, whilst playing the ball that pops with respect. Barraclough was the next to fall on 80, by one of the better balls of the day. Freddie Mills and Ovens, continued you our promising innings by putting on a partnership of 91. The partnership was broken when Ovens was bowled for 27, and with 4 over?s to go the message from the skipper out in the middle was to hit out. Pretorious fell for a DUCK (he actually got 3), Mills followed having finished up on 63, and Lockhart and Bolshaw finished not out on 18 and 6 respectively.
The Plough finished on 321 ? 6, with stand out performances from Barraclough and Mills.
As we walked off to tea at 4:40pm, we knew we had to be on form in the field to ensure the guys that were going to Hynes birthday arrived on time.
Conway and Bolshaw opened up, and found some great shape whilst pitching the ball in challenging areas, which showed off the venom and variety of the wicket we were playing on.? Bolshaw claimed the first scalp, clean bowling their opening bat. From here on in, the bowlers faced little competition, yet continued to bowl well. Wickets were shared between Conway, Bolshaw, Morgan and Pretorious but I think the stand out bowler was Bolshaw who finished with figures of 5-30.
It was a great afternoon, and good to see a batting, bowling and fielding performance being executed with such precision. Thanks to the bowlers, London Welsh finished on 95 all out and we were by the bar for 18:30!
