Match Report
Glorious sunshine in Twickenham greeted the Plough. Fred won the toss?.. and chose to bat, Paul was late?.. protecting his average and ?moving a sofa? and with the lack of other opening bat options (Hamer, Max, Paddy, Noodle???) Duray was promoted from 10 to open. He was so excited he decided to wear the thigh pad (Tom?s thigh pad) on the outside of his whites. Anyway the astro played well and the bowling was steady and non-threatening. The opening stand was 98 at drinks, with Duray passing 50.
With the openers gone, Fred joined Noodle at the crease and on completing his initial run Nick passed 4,000 runs for the club, Top Work Pip. Nick was dismissed caught down the leg side by the spinner and Fred was bowled by said same spinner trying to hit him over the stately house sightscreen.
At this point the clubs best ever number 8 Hynes was seen padding up eagerly.
Hamer (welcome back Steve) and Max (I?ll bring all my family to the game) Whiting joined forces and batted really well, punishing the bowling and running hard. Max?s un-knocked in bat allowed for a large volume of 3?s and we closed at 180 odd for 4 off our 35 overs. We probably could and should have passed 200.
With three balls in the innings to go an aggressive ripping of velcro could be heard from the middle to the boundary as Hynes removed his pads, I hope your sofa was worth it.
Tea was taken, I?d say a strong 7 out of 10??.. more savoury items ideally.
Tom and Matt opened the bowling??. like old times??. actually new Matt (nickname needed), both were exceptional. Whilst the batting wasn?t the strongest the pitch played true so it?s a credit to both of them to bowl so well. I think they finished with Matt 2 and Tom 1 wickets during their opening spell.
Matt Rees and Noodle combined as our initial change bowlers and continued to tie down the now frustrated Crossbat?s middle order. Fred decided to move a fielder and a catch was taken next ball (I?m pretty sure these events are unconnected). The Oppo?s number 4 Trigger played very well in making 68. Duray and Fred replaced Matt and Nick and combined to take 3 wickets.
Whilst the game fizzled out to a comfortable win, it was a good run out after a tough few weekends.
Before I end my report its import to remind all players it?s pretty unacceptable to undress in public. Whilst you are hot and tired, you don?t need to air yourself in public (Tom Lonnen). The link below will provide you events that?s acceptable to your life choices.
